Finally, chord detection that understands real performances
Play real music. Not simplified chords.
LiveChord detects modulation and dynamic beat changes in real recordings, then turns them into synced piano, guitar, ukulele, accordion, and arranger practice views.
Chords, modulation, and dynamic beats
Upload audio you have permission to use (MP3 / FLAC / WAV / OGG, up to 100 MB). The analysis returns chord progression, beat grid, tempo drift, and modulation points in 30 seconds to 2 minutes, depending on track length.
Five instrument views
See the same track through piano, guitar, ukulele, accordion, or arranger lenses. The AI accompaniment plays in lockstep on every instrument — guitar and ukulele get full pluck-and-strum waterfall events synced to the audio, not just chord shapes. Switch any time; chords, fingering, and timing stay aligned.
Built for real-performance practice
Transpose to any key, slow playback to 0.5x, loop a single section A-B, and see when the song changes key or tempo. Useful for live recordings, rubato ballads, folk tunes, and instrumental pieces where the pulse breathes.
A starting point, not a script
The AI accompaniment is a template — chord voicings, fingerings, strum and pick patterns to give you ideas. Then make it your own. Vary the rhythm, swap the voicings, improvise the bass line. The song you're learning is the real teacher; the AI just helps you take the first step.

Built for musicians who listen for structure
LiveChord combines chord recognition, beat/bar alignment, melody extraction, arranger patterns, and synced instrument views so the screen follows how the music is actually played.
Chord recognition
A transformer-based pipeline turns audio into a chord timeline, then cleans short fragments so the result is readable for practice.
Beat and bar alignment
Beat tracking and bar correction keep chord cards, dots, loops, and practice views locked to the musical pulse.
Melody extraction
Melody-aware views help separate accompaniment from lead lines, useful when studying piano, guitar, or arranger-style parts.
Arranger patterns
Backing styles translate the same harmony into playable rhythm patterns instead of leaving you with static chord names.
Synced instrument views
Piano, guitar, ukulele, accordion, and arranger views share the same timing data, so fingering, voicing, and playback stay together.
How LiveChord works
-
1
Upload your audio
Drag an audio file onto the upload area or click to pick one. MP3, FLAC, WAV and OGG up to 100 MB. The file lives in memory only for the duration of analysis — it never goes into a long-term archive.
-
2
AI analyzes the uploaded audio
A chord-recognition transformer detects the chord progression. A beat-tracking model finds bar lines and tempo. A section detector identifies structural sections (e.g., verse/chorus patterns). Typical analysis takes 30 seconds to 2 minutes depending on track length.

Practice with synced views
The player opens with chords, fingering and timing in lockstep with the audio. Transpose to your singing key, slow playback to 0.5×, loop a single section A-B, switch instrument view at any time. Built for actual practice — not just casual listening.
Built in the open
LiveChord is one developer's personal practice tool, polished into a public service in 2026. The core components — including chord recognition, beat tracking, and the player UI — are open source.
Released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0. You can run it yourself, study how it works, fork it, or contribute a patch. The one ask: if you run a modified version as a network service, you are required to make the modified source code available under the same license. That's the spirit of the project — useful tools should stay useful for everyone.
LiveChord is a general-purpose audio analysis tool. It does not provide, host, or distribute copyrighted audio content. The service analyzes audio that the user provides and has the right to use.
